Three-Note Jazz Chords explores shell voicings: 3-note chords that work especially well for jazz or blues rhythm guitar. If you have completed Rhythm Guitar 2, you are ready for this book. If you find this to be too much information at once, you may want to check out First Moveable Guitar Chords, and if you are interested in (mostly) 4-note moveable chords, Rhythm Guitar 3 is the book for you.

This book focuses on chords. If you want to learn to read and play melody lines in standard notation, please check out my Melody Guitar books.

Lesson 1: Notes on Strings 5 and 6 (pages 4-7)
In this first lesson, you'll learn the notes on strings 5 and 6. This is essential for learning how to play shell voicings. If you already know the notes on strings 5 and 6, you can skip to page 8.

Lesson 2: Shell Voicing Overview (pages 8-11)
This lesson covers a little bit of theory to help you understand how shell voicings are built, and then we'll go through an overview of the shell voicings in Three-Note Jazz Guitar Chords. This is just an overview! You'll learn these chords gradually as you work through the book.

Lesson 3: Dominant 7 Shell Voicings (pages 12-13)
The first chords in this book are dominant 7 shell voicings. These are important for all styles of music, blues in particular. Although this lesson introduces dominant 7 shell voicings with roots on both the 5th and 6th strings, we'll focus more on the 6th string root. You'll also learn the Freddie Green comping style that is essential for jazz and blues rhythm guitar.

Lesson 4: 6th String Dominant 7 Shell Voicing Drills (page 14)
Two exercises that drill dominant 7 shell voicings with roots on the 6th string.

Lesson 5: 5th String Dominant 7 Shell Voicing (page 15)
This short lesson focuses on the dominant 7 shell voicing with the root on the 5th string and includes a chord finding exercise.
